Slime
Strix
"Inspired by the queerness and abundance/brutality of nature, our audiovisual work explores the life of the slime mold.
The slime mold, physarum polycephalum, is neither a plant, an animal or a fungus. It does not have only two sexes, but 720 of them. It is an ever-expanding organic mass that grows in different directions through cytoplasmic streaming, which results in a pulsating rhythm. Despite not having a neural system, it is capable of communicating between parts and making intelligent decisions to explore the surroundings and navigate towards food sources.
The existence of the slime mold is testament to queerness and defiance against binary and dichotomy. What is intelligence? Is it encoded in our physical manifestation? What is life?
It lives, and grows, with its own pulses, wrapping around each other, until the first seed of degeneration appears from the inside, and finally succumbs to disintegration."
